Considering an SE. Concerned about open recall.

My 2023 mini se experienced this and triggered the recall, but I will say that when it caught on fire, it was at the dealership well after the code was thrown that told me to take it there. After this happened, I got another one because I loved the car so much and was not really that concerned, as there was only one other one that it happened to besides mine. 🤷🏼‍♀️ It is a great commuter car plus so fun to drive especially if you have the right set up to charge.

Sorry for the late reply I just saw you had posted this. Thanks for you response. Out of curiosity, where there any kind of precursor events or behaviors that could have triggered the fire that you can think of? Like heavy rains where you might have run through deep water or repeated fast charging? I'm a firefighter and we study these kind of events to get an idea of the dynamics that cause them. I remember reading somewhere that water intrusion into improperly sealed batteries may be part of the problem.

No that’s the thing there was not, the car was well driven it had over 14k miles on it in a year as I commuted 60 miles to work daily. Charged it frequently and it was garage kept. We moved in the city and my commute shortened so I was charging less frequently but the car was still garage kept. Had no issues with charging I have a level 2 emporia hard wired charger I think fast charged it a total of 3 times when I first got it. The insurance company even investigated the charger and found nothing wrong with it. I was only told by the lawyer that it was a battery manufacturing defect as they were able to see how the car caught on fire because a lot of the underside allowed them to see more than they thought it would. I didn’t know about the water intrusion things until I saw it on a forum after I got a recall for my new SE. There was no point I drove the car any different than a normal car in snowy or rainy days as I live in the northeast. Definitely think it was an isolated incident that just unfortunately happened to me thankfully not in my home. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Thanks for the reply. I live in Florida currently and we frequently get heavy rains so I was a bit concerned about that. It sounds like your commute was similar to mine. I was also planning to install a level 2 charger at the house. Mostly I was thinking electric because where I work just installed level 2 chargers and I can charge there also.
