Help! I’m just a girl with car issues.
Hi I hope I am allowed to post this here? I have a Citroen DS 3, 2018 plate, I’ve owned it for not even 2 years. It has 24,000 miles on it and no history of faults that I am aware of. I recently had “engine fault get checked” and “stop car” messages appearing on my centre console of my car - however no engine light on the dash. On my way to the garage with this issue my car went into limp mode and I barely made it to the garage. The garage refused to work on my car as they believed I had an issue with the timing belt in the engine essentially getting broken up and clogging the engine? They suggested I go to a Citroen dealership/specialist for this as they are not happy to take responsibility if something goes wrong when they work on it. So I had my car recovered and taken to another mechanic, one my dad recommended, unfortunately after having my car for a week they also have concluded they can’t fix it and are insisting the only solution is to get a new engine, they said the issue has happened as a result of the crappy design of the engine rather than anything I have done to the car. However, after speaking with a few other mechanics and people with experience with cars, they have all told me it sounds like an issue with the timing belt and it simply needs to be changed and it is also worth having the water pump done, and this would likely fix it, one of them has also worked on a Citroen with the same issue and this resolved it. Please if anyone has some advice it would be greatly appreciated, what do I do??! I cannot afford a new engine, I can barely afford to replace the timing belt but it seems the garages in my area don’t have mechanics that are willing to work on it due to the complications in fixing it. Just to clarify - the mechanic that suggested to change timing belt and water pump is nowhere near me and I cannot get to him due to my car being undrivable, he was simply offering advice. Edit: Thank you everyone for your advice, it seems that the best route here is to take it to a Citroen dealership and have them look at it, and most likely sell the car as it is likely going to happen again. Any more advice is absolutely welcome but I think this is ultimately my best choice.
