Of the three generic Extra Deck endboard bosses, Borreload Savage did the least wrong and could come back without much harm done
Why I think Savage isn't so bad compared to Baronne and Apollousa, and wouldn't be that much of a problem today:
- It's less generic as you have to be running both Synchros and Links. There are at least some decks which can at a pinch run Savage but where I ultimately decided to cut it for other ED options because setting up with a Link in GY going first was actually cumbersome and didn't suit its play style best. There are more good decks which can easily make Apollousa/Baronne or do so without losing out on much than Savage.
- Its negate isn't live on summon. If you summon Savage and your opponent drops a Nibiru, or hits it with Imperm/Veiler/Droplet etc, you can't stop it; likewise a negate on its effect on summon or an Imperm/Droplet on it at any point removes the set-up for its negate effect permanently, not just that turn. On that note, you can also chain S:P to banish your opponent's Savage when it attempts to activate its on summon effect, and it won't get the chance to activate it again when it's returned to the field in the End Phase.
- Savage's negate being an omni that negates but doesn't destroy is a significant drawback these days given the amount of decks with strong Continuous Spells/Traps or Field Spells where negating what they do on activation doesn't solve much. Baronne being able to negate and destroy these cards makes it much more powerful right now than Savage.
