Is Theft Still A Major Issue With Dodge?
The Dodge Charger/Challenger is my dream car. I’ve loved them since I was in HS. I really want a Scatpack, and there is a dealer near me selling a ‘19 CPO with low miles (~20k) for a reasonable price. I’m finally at a point where I can afford one comfortably and I want to go test drive this week. It’s debadged which I love bc it flies a bit more under the radar. It honestly looks like a GT w/o the badging.
The issue is, in doing my research I’ve read that they are the most stolen cars in the country. A lot of YouTube content creators constantly talk about it and it has made me paranoid to the point where I’ve been looking at alternative cars. I’ve been researching for months can’t find an alternative that makes me feel the same way a Charger does. Nothing else scratches that itch and checks all the boxes for me. The other issue is becoming a target for cops. I hear that these cars get profiled a lot as drug dealer cars. It sucks that bad people have ruined the reputation of mopar.
My question is, am I overly paranoid or are my concerns valid? I know this is all dependent on where people live. For context, I live in a nice safe suburb in Northern VA. Crime is very low and I see a number a Chargers/Challengers ride around with no problem. I am personally not a fan of guns and I’d rather not feel like I need one to own this car, like the YouTubers recommend.
I work remote so I’m home most of the time unless I’m traveling for work. It would be insured of course and I would plan on getting extra security system and a tracker if something were to happen. Unfortunately, I live in a condo and don’t have a garage, but I do have a parking lot. I could keep it covered when not on the road.
Should I go ahead and get the car I love or something else that’s less of a target but not nearly as exciting? I’d love to hear from owners and their experience. Thank you.
