Small Town within 3 hrs of DC?

Im looking for a place to Travel for my B day and take a 3 ish day trip, ive been to dc and Baltimore a million times, Im debating Staunton Va, But other small towns are really hard to find especially with things to do that arent all...historical? Where would you suggest thats within 3 hrs of DC?
