Hotel burglary in the middle of the night, can I chargeback visa?
I have been burlarised in the middle of the night in the hotel in zanzibar. The hotel turned out to be completely unsecured, no guards , no locks in windows faulty latch in the front sliding door etc... the robbers came through the front and exited through the back window in the room, taki g all the valuables and handbag with the gold chain and money . The police came to investigate and was furious at the hotel as they completely failed to safeguard the guests and secure the premises so nothing like this could happen. We spent the past 5 days chasing the hotel staff to help us as we were lest with no cash and cancelled cards which were in stolen bag. They were stalling and postponing resolution by evening than next day and so on for 5 days leaving us with relying on other guests to lend us mo ey for food. We requested a refund for the stay so we can look for alternative accommodation but they took 5 days to respond so we ended up having to stay the whole time in the same hotel not to mention other issues like lack of fireplaces and there was a power outage caused by fire too!
My kids are traumatised by the events, it's definitely not what was advertised. I contacted the bank but they don't seem to this chargeback can be processed because as per visa requirements we used the service provided....how is this even a thing? Can I dispute it because I last 5 days was spent basically either giving statements at the police station or chasing the management for reply instead of enjoying our holiday to Africa! Anything could have had happened when they were in our room, they could have kidnapped my kids!
Please share what else I can do because hotel doesn't feel want to cooperate Thank you
