What exactly is “family” cinema?

Hoping this post won’t be misconstrued but I’m genuinely curious.

Does it mean:

A: A movie where the story is about a family.

B. A movie that a whole family can watch (including kids). But isn’t it every movie with a U certificate?

C. A story about a family man fighting for his family.

D. A story where the baby making process is discussed or hinted.

Foot note: Since I’ve heard this phrase so many times this week, I want to understand it.

Because Sankranthiki Vasthunnam film that I saw recently (very entertaining), although in my opinion- is not a family cinema. Not because there are abusive words.

Because there’s an entire block about baby making and jokes surrounding it. The husbands yearning for it from the wives. The glaringly obvious jokes about “accounts chudali” or “headache”, the lead actor constantly asking for it from his wife. It’s not something I can watch with my family, I’m sorry. I’m not saying sex is taboo. But when it’s being talked about like it’s taboo or that we need to be surreptitious about it, it kinda crosses that lewd mark.

So much so, that I can watch a kiss scene from Animal with my family which come and goes before you know it and it’s not being discussed like it’s a big deal.

However, SV, ain’t no way.

So I’m curious as to how this “family cinema” works?
