2 Year Sleep Regression

Hi all,

We’re at a loss right now.

Our 2 year old suddenly (over Xmas) started refusing to sleep unless he contact sleeps. We haven’t had any significant life changes and have had a sleep routine that has aligned with a lot of what we read in setting the stage in a calm environment.

When bed time starts our little guy will only entertain sleeping if he’s on us. When we have him in his crib he continues to protest but is so upset he is constantly gagging because of how hard he is crying and coughing. We console him but it doesn’t seem to help.

Because of some mixed things we’ve read we aren’t sure if anyone could share advice on what would have worked with them in this situation?

We suspect he may have molars coming through and he does have an ear infection. He’s also been very testy the last few weeks so I do suspect that a good part of this is developmental.

I’m not sure if it’s better to let him cry while going in to comfort him (or sitting near him) despite it taking multiple hours with no progress or if we should resolve to him sleeping on us until we can rule out whether this is something that might be temporary?

Co-sleeping isn’t an option but we’re at a crossroads.

Thanks!
