How rich are the Pearsons???
Sorry if this is longer than necessary… I actually just finished the show today and it was so amazing I loved it so much. But to me the question that I always come back to is the family’s money situation, over multiple generations…lemme explain.
Rebecca and Jack were by no means rich when they first were married and had kids. I don’t wanna call them broke but they weren’t far from it. I get Jack borrowed money from his dad and he gets his job going, but they were pregnant talking about struggling to put down a deposit on that apartment, then he immediately turns around and just buys that house?? I get it’s the 1980s, and the house wasn’t even finished, but that’s a big purchase to just make like that. Okay then the kids are born a few years later they’re able to buy a second vacation home? Maybe I don’t understand his work and maybe it was super lucrative, but they’re supporting a family of five off one income and they can afford a second home??
Okay flashforward to 20 something years later. Kate and Kevin live in LA and Randall and Rebecca +Migs are in NJ. Am I tripping or does it feel like they are making cross country flights extremely frequently?? Maybe I’m being dramatic. I get that Kevin’s rich, but is he paying Kate a ton of money as his assistant? And even then he fires her. So how is she affording to live in that nice apartment in LA on what a part time singer’s salary? Or is Toby paying for that? I suppose Randall is making a lot of money, but then he quits the job and I feel like him and Beth’s lives don’t change much? They had that huge house in what looked like a wealthy neighborhood also with a family of 5, and they never talk about being hard on money until Beth is like “I guess I’ll go back to work.” I kind of assumed Rebecca and Migs are able to do fine bc of retirement? And their kids probably pay for stuff of course.
Maybe this is over dramatic and I’m just bored and think about these things LOL but it was just something I feel like I noticed from the beginning that just did not add up to me…or if it kinda did it was just a plot hole type thing. Would love to hear others thoughts/opinions. Are they just a really well off family? Is this not atypical for some American families?
Sorry if it’s been posted about before I’m new to the sub!
