El Tesoro Single Barrel

A group I’m a client of invited me to a hunting trip on private land that has 200,000 acres, a lodge with multiple cabins for just our group, a chef, and a few side-by-sides to drive us around looking for Hogs. This was my first time ever hunting, let alone shooting at a moving target. Seemed like an opportunity I couldn’t pass up. I wanted to bring a bottle to share with the guys, and since I only drink tequila, this is what I brought. Most of the guys like bourbon, and some already drink tequila, so I thought this would be a good fit - everyone enjoyed and we finished the bottle.

Aged 7 months Ex bourbon barrel B140-1336 Bottle 42/240

Nose is full of agave followed by some barrel influence of oak and vanilla, pepper, and slight citrus.

On the palate and as it opened up I got sweet agave, slight licorice, pepper, barrel notes of one Carmel. Has a nice level of heat to it. I don’t get a silky/viscous mouthful with this one; it’s sharp.

Short finish, and without that silky feel it makes for a dull ending in my opinion.

It does have a nice taste to it, I enjoyed sipping on it at dinner and by the campfire. Not really a repo guy, but for $60 I’m happy I tried it, and it made for a great group gift.
