It is kinda overrated

I finally read It this year after being a lifelong fan (I did get out of reading for most of my 20s though). I tried to read it when I was around 13 but found the length too daunting and gave it up. I actually read that same copy I bought nearly 20 years ago though. I never throw out books!

Anyways, I have to say, it didn't totally blow me away. Both of the final battles were a bit too abstract and convoluted to be scary for me. The turtle kinda fell flat for me, more bemusing than profound. And the sewer orgy was baffling. Made no sense and was just overall kinda...icky.

Don't get me wrong, some parts are great. The human villains are terrifying. Henry Bowers and Tom are right up there with his scariest characters. But a lot of the mythology around It I found too vague and rushed.

Currently reading another King epic for the first time, The Stand, which, despite it's hefty size, I am finding much scarier and more enjoyable. (No spoilers please I am only on page 500)

What do you guys think of It? Anyone else like me who found it kinda underwhelming for a novel that's so adored in the King canon?
