Is Nam-gyu secretly smart?

Nam-gyu is a pretty difficult character to analyze. On one hand, he's clearly petty about Se-mi constantly pissing him off — but is that really the case?

Let's take a look at the bigger picture here. What if Nam-gyu was fully conscious of Thanos being a prick, and not just dickriding him to stay alive?

We know Thanos doesn't treat Min-su the same as Nam-gyu; in fact, their attitudes toward Min-su are almost completely opposite.

Thanos sees Min-su as "cute", while Nam-gyu sees him as a "loser". After the second game, Thanos backs up Min-su after Nam-gyu told him to do a headcount — saying that they're the same age, so Nam-gyu has no right bossing him around.

What if Nam-gyu knows that Se-mi (and furthermore, Thanos) are against his hate towards Min-su?

When Thanos takes the pills for the second time in the beds, he shoos Nam-gyu off as to gatekeep them, though Nam-gyu obviously knows what they are.

Plus, Nam-gyu might know that Thanos is kinda stupid — and knows that he will probably die soon (Nam-gyu doesn't want Thanos to die, but it happens eventually anyway).

To salvage his chances of winning the games, he wants to keep a semblance of an "alliance" at his grip. He knows he can easily keep Min-su under his control.

And he also kills off Se-mi during Lights Out because he's a petty bitch. He only does this when Thanos is gone, taking note of how Thanos clearly won't be pleased if he kills Se-mi.

I don't think he's gonna join Jeong-dae's gang in Season 3 — and instead continue to fuck Min-su up. I can tell Nam-gyu is going to be a major character in S3 already.

Any opinions?
