The Future of Springfield Comedy

We're all aware that there are a lot of changes happening in the Springfield, MO comedy scene, and there's been a whole lot of negativity surrounding the subject. Although there have been problems, there are several people working behind the scenes to make comedy better in this town.

If you want to see some good comedy, try Moon City, Corner Pocket, Lindbergs, and Beefy Stool (Joplin) I've been to several other big cities to do comedy, including Austin, and the comics in our scene are every bit as talented as the top comics there. In fact, some of their top comics are from Springfield, as Corbin Lemaster, Josh Wingo, and Carter Phanckuchenshnuchenstein have all gone to Austin for their careers, and are doing very well for themselves.

If you come to an open mic, you will have to sit through some bad sets, but you'll see some magic happen too. If you stick around long enough, you'll get to watch people develop as comics and as people, which is extremely cool to see happen in front of your own eyes. Even the worst of the worst comics can have amazing sets, and I've seen the best in our scene bomb and eat complete sh$% too. Stand up comedy is something that anyone has the potential to get good at, if they're willing to keep putting themselves out there.

All the mics I mentioned are free, and they typically spawn local indie shows that cost around 10-20 bucks or so, depending on the details.

Sign ups for Moon City are at 7pm tonight, and the show is at 8pm. Tomorrow is Corner Pocket inside of Billiards, same timeframe. Lindbergs is Sunday, immediately following the open jam!
