2025: why do folks prefer Spotify over Pandora?
100% genuine question, I am absolutely not trying to troll lol.
I've been a Pandora subscriber pretty much since the very beginning, because I really prefer their music genome algorithm, because it finds me music and songs I like based on the style and sound and content etc of each song, instead of just feeding me a list of artists or songs that are all within the same genre. Over the years I've tried Spotify and other services temporarily, but after a few weeks I end up frustrated at being fed music that I don't enjoy, so I switch back.
Just wondering, have there been improvements to their algorithm, or are there other big benefits people like that outweigh Pandora? or are my music discovery desires just really different from the majority of the population?
AFAIK, Spotify pays artist better which I'd like to contribute to, and it seems to be the only streaming service that anyone cares about in media and reporting which secretly makes me feel a little bit left out of the crowd, lol. so I guess I'm looking for someone to give me any other reasons that might add up to enough to get me to switch. Or if I should just continue with the algorithm I love and oh well.
(edit: I'm in America, so my question is specific to our services, our habits, etc.)
(2nd edit: The paid version of Pandora gives you full control over playlist creation, unlimited skips, no ads, etc etc. I forgot it didn't used to be this way, so maybe people just haven't been checking in on it since the time that they made those changes?)
(3rd Edit: everyone's responses are making me realize I probably wouldn't have known about Pandora's tools either if I weren't already a long long long time user. I didn't even notice that I haven't seen marketing for them for probably a good decade plus 🤯)
Thanks for any input!
