This might be a stretch, but I'm questioning the day-long breaking news coverage happening all day today.

First, my sincere condolences to the family and friends to those who were affected by the New Orleans event overnight. And to anyone affected.

This being said, I noticed that the news ran this breaking news almost all day. And unless I'm wrong, I don't recall school shootings, mass shootings, parade massacres, or more having breaking all-day news. It's unfortunate, but a sign of how normalized all of this madness has become here in the US. So that makes me curious why this event is deemed to be all-day breaking news, especially on New Years day?

MAYBE desensitization for the likely crazy amount of breaking news ahead? I'm not implying anything about the New Orleans event itself, or the other things that happened over the past 24 hours. Again, my sincerest condolences.
