Restoring previous groups

I recently upgraded my iPhone the problem is rejoining the previous groups I was a part of. I can see all of the previous groups on my desktop version and old phone, but nothing on my new phone. Is there a way to resync? I tried posting in those groups from my old device to try and kick it in to gear, but it is no longer registered.
