Our rescue pup had his first fever (seeking advice)
We adopted Kumo in February 2024, at that time the shelter estimated him to be about 1-2 years old. I have familiarize myself with FSF, because I have always assumed he was a sharpei but the shelter had him listed as a chow/collie.
Last night, he was trembling and would not get up when I called to him or tried to get him to engage with his favorite toy. So I rushed him to the emergency vet, his temperature was initially 104.7F and the vet gave him an antipyretic injection, Carprofen, and pain relief medication. They also did blood work and all the results came back normal. I was sent home with oral Carprofen and will be monitoring his temperature twice a day.
I will get him seen by his primary care vet this week. I’m hoping to look at options that manage fever such as Colchicine and discuss routine urinalysis and blood work. Since this is all new to us is there any additional advice you may have on supplements, what you feed your pups, good questions for me to ask during our vet appointment. Any and all advice is greatly appreciated! Thank you! 🐾🤍
