Why are there no public bathrooms downtown?
All of downtown smells like pee. Every single street. Every. Single. One. I often walk through downtown after I get off a long trolley ride on my way home and there is just no where to pee. I tried to walk into a hotel to use the restroom and was turned away, then a restaurant then a department store. They all told me I couldn't use the restroom. Finally just peed on the sidewalk.
Anyone know of anything being done by the City to help? Everyone needs to pee and this city is all about getting outdoors and being outside. Where do I pee?
Update:
So it looks like there really aren't any. Some rude person provide a SD gov map that had two public bathrooms listed in all of downtown that were on the waterfront. Is that it?
In addition, looks like the most common responses here are:
Homeless people will use them. My response: yes, homeless people also pee. If we don't like it, that would be a reason to end homelessness, not to block the entire public from being able to use the bathroom. And right now the alternative is they are peeing all over every sidewalk - not a better solution IMO.
Why you need to pee? Stop peeing so much.
Just buy a meal at a private business and pee there. My response: This is not a public restroom and private businesses should not bear the burden of serving as public restrooms.
It's too expensive. My response: It looks like San Diego installed TWO public bathrooms in 2015 but they cost $500K each so they took them out and never added them again. What about these? https://imgur.com/tqslu - I saw these all over Europe.
Update 2: I didn't realize this was such a sensitive topic. Most of y'all are angry, passive aggressive or rude af. 91 comments and maybe 10 sincere answers. Woof.
