PHEVs and winter

My friend bought Mitsubishi outlander PHEV a while ago and he loves it. Car is gorgeous inside and out and arguably it has one of the most luxurious interior out of all the other PHEV options available in the market. He is addicted with the lifestyle of completing daily commute on EV range and then using gas tank on weekend hiking and fishing trips. His experience with the car has been really good until last winter when temperature dropped below negative 20 degrees here in Canada.(It’s quite normal for us to have temperature go down in this range for a week or two during winter) and car refused to start. Despite having back and forth conversations with dealership and Mitsubishi Canada corporate, no one could provide any solid answers or solution. Mitsubishi tech advised that this car and battery system is not designed to handle extreme weather conditions and you should not rely on it. That broke trust of my friend with the car and brand for the simple reason of spending $50k + on vehicle and not being able to use it when you need it. Recently he drove the Rav4 prime and was completely blown away by 300hp push and he is willing to trade luxury and polished drive of outlander for performance of prime but after doing homework this time we came across the shortcoming of Rav4 prime in winter which is not being able to remote start the vehicle at certain temperatures. Now idea of spending $60k + on vehicle and not having the ability to remote start the vehicle in winter is again coming out as deal breaker. Toyota sales person reply on this was that all the PHEVs are like this and we should either look for hybrid or fully electric vehicle for winter use. We would like to know this subreddit members opinion and suggestions on this. Has anyone here owned Rav4 prime in Canadian winter and how has your experience been so far with the car? I appreciate everyone’s time for reading this. Thank you!

Edit : Installing aftermarket remote starter is easy fix on prime but Toyota dealership advised us that it might end up voiding the warranty and we didn’t like the idea of carrying extra fob in addition to car key fob after spending luxury car money.
