First stab at wavy quilting and flange binding

I tried it on a potholder using Insul-Bright and thin cotton batting. I love the wavy quilting but I’m not sure I’m sold on this binding method, mostly because I stitched it a little sloppily. I feel like it’s hard to beat the clean look of machine stitching to the front and hand stitching to the back. Thoughts or suggestions?
