Permadeath is core to the experience
I’ve seen some people arguing that some of the balance changes would be fine if they gave us respawns / other ways to save our skills, so here’s my two cents :
Those are fine as sandbox options, but the base experience is permadeath. It is an absolutely essential element to the game’s immersion and realism :
Here’s an example : Got a broken bone / inconvenient injury ? Just kill yourself in the security of your home. Even if they make it so you respawn randomly in town, you can just sprint back in a few minutes and keep going.
Permadeath makes every single thing you do count, every new foray into the unknown brings more and more risk as you’re more and more invested in your character.
If some system doesn’t jive well with permadeath (eg because it’s too grindy or the loot is too rare), then that system needs to be updated. Permadeath is (part of) the core, not the other way around.
