how to close piercing safely?

hi, I have had a nostril piercing for 9 months, and I want to take it out and close the piercing. I’m quite scared of scarring though, because my earlobe piercings have scarred quite a bit when I was younger. does anyone know how I should go about taking it out, and taking care of the wound for it to close nicely and scar the least?
