Extremely Hot Take: Jamie Lee Curtis deserves a nomination for The Last Showgirl

i’ve noticed it’s currently in vogue to hate Jamie Lee Curtis—primarily due to her head-scratching oscar victory a few years ago, and whatever “tone-deaf” boomer wine mom statements film twitter pretends to care about. but she’s absolutely transfixing in this role.

a lot of people who haven’t seen this movie are completely discounting or writing off the validity of Anderson and Curtis’ growing momentum. hey, watch it first! should be an unspoken rule, no?

honestly, it’s also a great EEAAO palette cleanser and reminded me of how great an actress she truly is. looking at the other contenders this season—Barbaro, Grande, Curtis, and Deadwyler are all scene stealers. Qualley is great. Saldaña and Rossellini are fine. Gomez is atrocious and shouldn’t be permitted to step foot on another film set. haven’t seen The Brutalist yet, so I can’t speak on Jones. JLC should absolutely get nominated and the SAG 5 would personally satisfy me (i know it won’t happen, but still).

if i’m wrong, please provide some clarity regarding the animosity many people have toward her and this performance.
