Help with Glazing Fabric

I am doing a study of this painting to learn how to paint fabric. I just started glazing the grisaille today and it is just not looking right.

The glaze just looks super grainy.

I’m also open to any advice on painting in this style (I know I don’t have her anatomy or fabric 1:1 but for this study I am more focused on technique than accuracy)
