How to go about getting a vasectomy

So I'm in my mid 40's and definitely don't want anymore kids, and my partner is also of the same mindset. So we talked and agreed getting snipped is the best way forward. Anyone know what way I can go about this? Do I need to see my doctor? I hate to take time away from someone who has an actual medical issue, just so I can get my Dr to write a referral or whatever. Can I go to a clinic and get the ball rolling?
