Just had a bad night
I am 23 and my girlfriend is 20
I borrowed my friends Shadow 750 to take my girlfriend out for her first ride. We had a great day then at 7:10, had a deer jump into us as we were going ~45. As the light was fading and on a country road, it was concealed until immediately before she leapt. The bike is untouched, I stayed on and the bike didn't go down. The same can't be said for my girlfriend who took the majority of the force from a roughly 160 pound doe. From what I can tell, I broke its 2 front legs with my shin/kneecap then it's main body took her off.
Fortunately she was in boots, a leather jacket and a full face helmet, but still got a compound open fracture with both her tibia and fibula sticking through the skin.
I saw in slow motion that deer launch out at me and felt it hit me. I remember screaming at it and the pain then realizing my girlfriend was gone and I was still up. Then looked back over my shoulder and saw her tumbling. I locked out the back tire bringing it to a stop and ran to check on her. EMS response was fast and kind hearted people including an off duty EMS were there to help.
Fortunately I have a conceal carry and was able to shoot that deer. It tried to bolt then collapsed as both it's front legs were broken.
What I didn't know is that my friends bike wasn't insured because the title is still under his deceased father. So that's a hefty driving uninsured ticket and the officer said as a caution that her health insurance company might come to me for money so that's terrifying.
My girlfriend is in the hospital and COVID has made that whole thing a nightmare but her family was able to come and see her one at a time.
