Guys , I have just started microbiology , what is the best approach for this subject?

This subject feels like memorizing random facts about some random bugs . It's a lot to memorize.. is there any systematic approach or one which requires less mugging up.. I experienced the same thing in anatomy but atleast I could see and visualize things which made it a lot easier.. but unfortunately I can't visualize bugs ..
