Central Florida DIY Lawn Care Tips

Can someone point me in the right direction for a deep dive on DIY lawn care in Central Florida? I currently use a company to fertilize my lawn (St Augustine grass) and various large shrubs that I have as well as provide pest control. I really need to save some money and think I should be able to do this myself and will be comfortable with any granular applications I need to apply, but I'm not as sure about any spray mixtures, although I could probably learn. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
