I love that one of the Nobel Medicine winners is in industry.
Right now the discussion with Kariko online about how she was fired from Penn + humiliated by them when she left for BioNTech in 2013 is honestly inspiring considered how she’s come out on top. Most of the people online who talk about leaving academia for industry still act like they “failed”, but she’s proof that it’s not failing to end up in industry, it’s just a different and equally valid path.
Note: This is not a critique on people in industry who talk like they’ve failed, it’s just me being very happy about this “success story” so to speak, as it shows that going to industry is not at all failing but just changing direction, and still just as successful an option.
