foreshadowing xaden torture?

remember when >! xaden rescued violet from torture and he said "how about this: next time i'm beaten for 5 days straight, i'll let you carry me out of the prison." !< ??? this connects to something rebecca yarros said in a q&a where a similar scene (where someone gets >! tortured then rescued !< ) will happen in onyx storm, but the feelings connected to it will not be the same.... how ominous is that?? our poor xaden!!! what do you think??
