My take on the iPhone 14
I’ve already planned on upgrading to the 14 Pro Max, and after watching the event I have quite a lot to vent out, good and bad.
I’ll start with what’s exciting. The Pros.
The 14 Pro and Pro Max look phenomenal. I love the dynamic island, so happy rumors didn’t pick up on that. The cameras look insane, and the display being able to reach 2000nits outdoors might really help me here in Florida where it gets extremely fucking bright outdoors. Kudos to Apple for keeping the prices the same in America. Shame it increased in some locations. Also seeing 29 hours of video playback on the Max, one more hour compared to the 13 Pro Max, gets me excited.
Now, a problem. I hate how these models are eSIM only in the US. For me it isn’t bad but I won’t be able to switch between phones as easily anymore. It also prevents users from getting a cheap SIM while traveling over data roaming. Shame.
I’ll go ahead and mention the 14s since I’m not too impressed. But it’s nice to see the 14s get a brighter display, the 13 Pro’s main camera, and the 13 Pro’s A15 Bionic which is more than enough. Overkill, even. My only issue is the pricing. It’s simply not competitive compared to something like the $799 S22, which has 120hz, 50MP, and a telephoto, or the $899 Pixel 6 Pro or 7 Pro, which has a 48MP main sensor, 48MP telephoto, 120hz, and the large display. There are reasons to get the 14 and 14 Plus over those, sure, mainly the battery life because the 14 Plus might be an absolute beast, but otherwise I wouldn’t.
Overall. Great lineup. The Pros are priced really well while I wish the 14s were cheaper.
