How do I do the app thing 😎

I've just ordered an iPod touch 2nd gen with iOS 4 and I just want to know if I can still use the app store to download some old apps that might still work. I don't really want to jailbreak it but I'm just curious if apple still has old iOS 4 apps for download that I could get USING THE INBUILT APP STORE.. thanks in advance
