Do I actually need a screen protector?

Do I actually need a screen protector for my iPhone 16 pro? I do drop my phone a lot. I just hate when the screen protector gets scratched and they are too expensive to change often. Does it actually protect the phone screen or is it just another way for businesses to make money?
