How to reduce the spotlight bias

Found some cool science to toss out to HNTGAF...

So there's this thing called the spotlight bias, which describes how we dramatically overestimate how much other people notice and judge our appearance and actions. In reality, other people really don't give too many fucks about the things that we give lots and lots of fucks about. A recent paper reported that if you imagine a future event from a third-person perspective instead of a first-person perspective you're less likely to feel embarrassment or distress about future situations. So next time you're worrying about an event but want to give fewer fucks, take a step back and think about it as an impartial observer, and see if that helps.
