Isolating pads... they make a huge difference.

I've posted a couple of times recently about my new setup. One thing I was having trouble with was getting my center channel sounding right in all situations. At certain vocal pitches, it would just sound really hollow, or echoy, or just quiet and difficult to understand. I was beginning to wonder if I had made the wrong choice.

After spending way too much time adjusting, researching, and adjusting some more, I finally someone mention they had isolated the issue down to their speaker interacting with the media console it was sitting on, and they were able to resolve it with a foam isolation pad. I figured it was a relatively inexpensive option worth a shot, and picked these up from Amazon.

Wow, just wow. Huge, huge difference. In particular, it was having trouble with Matthew McConaughey's natural speaking range in movies like Interstellar. After adding the pads, with no other change, it was all just crystal clear.

Don't discount your speakers' interactions with the environment if something's not quite right.
