Why doesn’t anybody talk about how effed up limiting bathroom breaks is?
So this all started in middle school. My school had a system where every student got three break passes per class, per SEMESTER. That's 5 months y'all. 18 passes. For 5 months. And these counted for bathroom breaks, getting water, etc. because of this, I got in the habit of not using the bathroom during school. Breaks were too short to do anything but get your stuff from your locker (because they banned backpacks of course) and get to your next class. Lunch was short and everybody was trying to use the bathroom at once because we were all in the same situation. I became chronically dehydrated, as I didn't drink during or before school because I didn't wan to have to pee. I'm still trying to break that habit. They luckily didn't have the rule in high school. Until now. My school is piloting a program where you have to sign out on your computer when taking a break, then sign back on imehen you are done. If you take more than 5 minutes, you are flagged and the admin get a message. What is there's a line? What if you have to crap? What if you have a period emergency? It's beyond stupid. And now they have a program, it's only a matter of time before they limit the number of breaks you can take. Students are people too. They should not have their basic rights (to use the freaking toilet) limited like some kind of prison.
Edit: this is an American public school, of course.
Edit 2: you also can't leave in the first or last ten minutes.
