Jackson brand H. Dittson dovetail saw?
I made a post a couple days ago about the veritas dovetail saw. I'm looking for my first dovetail saw to do some joinery and found this one eBay. It's supposedly made by dittson but under a different brand. I'm curious if anyone has any knowledge of it and if it would make a good or better first saw than the veritas? The bid ends soon so I'm not sure if I should let it pass or if I'll be missing out on a good deal. The price so far is 45 after shipping, the veritas is about 100. Thanks for any help.
The description reads: Here we have an Antique 'JACKSON' (H. Disston Mfg'd) 10" Dovetail Tenon Steel Back Saw 13 TPI. H. Disston & Sons, Philadelphia, PA , like many saw makers who were trying to expand their sales, began marketing different models or 'lines' of saws. One of their 'second' line of saws had the designation of 'Jackson'. Per my ref.: E. Schaffer, "Hand-Saw Makers of North America", the 'Jackson' back saw line was offered from 1909-1923. The Steel spine is stamped with the company name. This is a 10" Steel spine, Back Saw primarily designed for cutting Dovetails but it could be used for Tenons as well. This saw is in Good 'used tool' condition with repaired breaks in main handle stock and the lower bridging arm. The handle was also recently refinished. I don't see any chipped or broken teeth. The blade is sharp but should be checked before use. The closed wood handle is tight on the blade. The blade is held with 2 brass and steel saw nuts. This saw appears to be a 13 tpi model. Overall saw length is approx. 14-3/4". No owner's marks. Please review the pics to confirm the condition !
