Rebate/rabbet in plywood - rebate plane or saw and chisel?

I'm making some furniture with birch ply and need to cut a rebate/rabbet with hand tools. Any advice on what technique/tools to use?

I'm torn between using a rebate plane (set up with a nicker as for cross-grain) or sawing then chiselling. The rebate won't be hugely visible so speed/ease is probably more important than finish.

The rebates will be about 60cm (24") long, which would mean some fairly accurate sawing then plenty of chiselling out the waste if I went down that route, but maybe its worth it given how easily and cleanly the ply will chisel out?

Any pointers really appreciated!
