Throwing a LAN party for my birthday with 6-8 friends! Need game recommendations

My birthday's coming up and I'm planning a good old-fashioned LAN party at my place. We'll be a small group of 6-8 people, all bringing our laptops. Looking for some fun games that work well in a LAN setting and are good for a party atmosphere.

We're open to pretty much any genre: shooters, strategy, co-op, party games, anything that's fun and social. Bonus points if it's easy to pick up and play, so even the less experienced gamers in the group can jump in.
