[DAV SPOILERS] Evanuris Power Level: Why Were They So OP?
In Veilguard and various codex entries from previous Dragon Age games, we’ve seen the Evanuris perform absolutely insane feats of magic. This raises the question: Why are they so much more powerful than other spirits who became the first elves? They couldn't have been the only spirits embodying concepts like Command/Tyranny (Elgar’nan) or Benevolence (Mythal). What made these spirits uniquely powerful?
To recap some of their known feats:
Elgar’nan
- Bending the moon to create an eclipse.
- Mind-controlling crowds—not just bloodbound slaves, but apparently anyone within his influence.
- Killing Titans, creatures the size of mountains.
- Throwing massive sun-laser beams, killing both elves and spirits.
Mythal
- Even as a spirit shard of her former self, she can transform into incredibly formidable dragon. Imagine her power when she was a full spirit in her physical body.
- Killing Titans.
- Mind control.
Solas
- Created the Wolf’s Fang dagger, the most powerful known weapon in Thedas, which can:
- Tranquilize whole primordial species like Titans.
- Break through the Evanuris' enchantments and kill them.
- Perform rituals on a global scale.
- Built the Veil—a magical barrier separating the physical world from the Fade—around an entire continent (or possibly the whole globe).
- Created pocket realities like the Black City and the regret prison.
June
- Designed the Eluvian network, a truly ingenious feat of magical engineering.
- Potentially created pocket realities, like the one Morrigan used to hide with Kieran after DAO, or the Crossroads (though Solas might’ve had a hand here too).
Ghilan’nain
- Created entire new species, such as the halla, and other large monsters (many of which she destroyed to ascend to Evanuris).
- Are Some Spirits Innately Stronger?
- Could it be that even among spirits of the same type (e.g., Wisdom, Command, Benevolence), some are inherently more powerful?
- Connection to Natural Forces:
- Elgar’nan’s link to the sun/moon suggests a unique relationship with celestial / natural phenomena, his power level was enhanced by it. Is this kind of connection something spirits can develop, or is it unique to him?
- Why Them?
- There were hundreds or thousands of spirits that crafted lyrium bodies, why did only a handful rise to such incredible power?
