Why the image of broken hands?

I listen to Demon Hunter a lot and I've noticed a trend in the lyrics of "broken hands". Anyone know why they use this imagery so many times?

I personally connect with their music a lot and I also have a condition in my hands that prevents me from using them to do any of the meaningful things I like to do. And the feeling i get from the songs is having to live with the (for me, literally) broken flesh we have?
