Ear tubes because of frequent ear infections?

I'd like to hear experiences from getting ear tubes for your child. How was the procedure? Did it actually help?

Doctor recommended ear tubes because our 1y 11mon son has had ear infection basically every month.
I've been told it's pretty simple operation, but idk.. I don't like that it's supposed to be done while under anesthesia.
I've been put to sleep once because of an operation and I really disliked the experience.
