On star

Wtf is it with chevy? On star seems to be a great product, but why are you mandated to have it in order to make things work. I know you can use phone data, wake and others, but really like on star features like voice to text, etc.

Is on star just a money maker or do others use something different? Hate to keep paying and paying for stuff others adjust offer with vehicle.
