Best jobs for an ex-lawyer?
I'm a woman in my late 30s. I decided to leave the legal profession earlier this year and have been unsuccessful in finding other work. I wanted to take a break but didn't realise how hard it would be to get back into the workforce. I haven't applied for any legal roles and have mostly applied for admin/customer service type roles and haven't had any success. I am wondering if there are other jobs that I might be suited for. I have a law degree and a useless arts degree. I've only ever worked in law, apart from a short stint in customer service, which I hated. I don't mind working in customer service as long as people are respectful but it's not something I can control.
I was a fairly senior lawyer which is probably why I'm being overlooked in my job applications. I'm wondering if there are other types of jobs I should be targeting and how to tailor my resume so that I don't look overqualified and under-experienced for those jobs? I really have no idea what other kind of jobs I'd be suited for because I haven't done anything else besides being a lawyer. I can't help but suspect I'm being age discriminated as well (employers can probably guess my age from my resume). If I was a young uni student I'd probably have a better chance of getting an entry level job but I get the feeling no one wants to hire an ex-lawyer to do a job that a uni student could do.
I also have a non-anglo name, but I'm not sure if it's relevant since it never stopped me from getting a job previously.
I will be studying teaching next year so I guess I could use that to explain why I left the legal profession but it still doesn't help my lack of non-legal experience.
Any advice would be appreciated. TIA.
