How Would Percy Jackson be Different if it Came Out Today? [pjo]

The OG was first released on 2005. Yes, we are getting old, and technically so is Percy, who, being 12 in 2005, would be 32 now. Yes, I know Rick says Percy Jackson always "takes place now," and that Percy has no set birth year, but you get the point.

Being in 2005, there were things there concurrent to the time period, like instant messaging, and being able to shoot guns over the Las Vegas skyline from the Lotus Hotel.

If Percy Jackson had never released in 2005, and Rick only just released it today, how do you think the book would be different?

I think Percy's education would have gone a lot differently. In 2008, amendments were made to the Americans with Disability Act (ADA), which basically created the IEP and 504 plans that schools use for kids with various disabilities, such as mobile issues, incontinence, and of course, ADHD and dyslexia. Being a teacher, I think Rick would have written Percy to be on either plan.

Mrs. Dodds would be described differently, I think, because "mean enough to drive a Harley into your locker" sounds less intimidating and more badass. Imagine a teacher driving a motorcycle down the halls of your school, and then popping a wheelie and ramming the lockers.

What are your thoughts?
