Considering the industry. Need advice.

Hi everyone,

I’m 5 months away from graduating with a mechanical engineering degree, but I’ve been feeling uncertain about my career path. The more I learn about the mechanical engineering job market, the less excited I am about the opportunities available.

Recently, a friend who works in home construction suggested I look into the cabinetry industry, and it’s really piqued my interest. I’ve always enjoyed working with my hands, woodworking, and creating things that people can use and enjoy. I’m also passionate about eventually owning my own business, and cabinetry seems like a field where that could be achievable.

That said, I don’t have much insight into the cabinetry industry. I’d love to hear from anyone with experience in the field: What are the pros and cons? What should I know before making this shift? Is it realistic to pursue cabinetry as a long-term career, or even as a stepping stone toward owning my own business?

Any advice, experiences, or insights would be hugely appreciated.
