Hard Breast while breastfeeding

4 days after giving birth. My wife has experienced her breast becoming "Hard as a rock". She is breastfeeding. And has tried pumping to reduce the hardness. But is still complaining that it is uncomfortable. Is their anyone that can give any solution or tip on how to make the swelling go away. She would be truly grateful.
