Kabe ni Naritai Otaku no Atashi. | BL-Adjacent Japanese Miniseries
So I was scrolling through the Japanese side of Instagram and saw a few screenshots from this miniseries. So naturally, I went and looked it up lol. I've seen the title listed as 壁になりたいオタクのあたし。 (Kabe ni Naritai Otaku no Atashi./I'm an Otaku Who Wants to be a Wall.). I found it unsubbed on TVer and watched all three episodes, which are approximately 9 minutes each; the site requires a Japanese VPN to access them, though. It seems to be a part of TV Asahi's new Bara Bara Monthly programming (seemingly a collection of "trial" miniseries like this), and it aired earlier this month.
Disclaimer that my Japanese ability is pretty basic, but I'll share what I can, especially given that this show has a decent amount of BL slang terms.
So this is more of a BL-adjacent drama than anything, more in the vein of Me no Doku Sugiru Shokuba no Futari or Fudanshi Bartender no Tashinami. It's a comedy with a shipper protagonist.
General Plotline (from what I can understand): Mari, a fujoshi and office worker, ships Kouji and Rui, two male employees, and she shares her fantasies of the couple online in her "diary." One day, Kouji leaves her a note stating that he wants to meet. Kouji then states that he has someone he likes--and that person happens to be Rui!
Ending: Seems like a happy ending for Mari and her ship! Confession, kabedon, and all haha. Some funny twists you'll see if you watch it like the couple defying the seme/uke roles she expected and the co-worker turning out to be a commenter on the diary.
So yeah, it's more from the shipper's perspective, but the show is pretty explicit about Kouji having a crush on Rui right from the start--direct statements about liking him, how Mari might perceive him for being a man who likes a man, etc. Prior to Kouji mentioning anything, Mari stays entirely out of his relationship with Rui, and she seems pretty funny in general (and a bit unhinged haha). I think she has a shipper closet/cabinet to hide in at work, too... I might need something like that haha. But yeah, she seems to be Kouji's wingman throughout this, though there's also a co-worker who thwarts some of the scenarios. There's some stuff that takes place in Mari's imagination, but that's not the only source of BL.
All in all, pretty cute use of 30 minutes or so! It's silly, but I think the balance between the shipping and romance was handled well. I like how Mari was portrayed overall and wish I could have understood more of what she was saying.
I haven't seen much about this show in general (even on Japanese SNS), so I just wanted to share and see if anybody might have more information on it!
