Recommended difficulty for a new player (Repentance)?

I've done research on the topic and it seems a bit divisive, especially for new players specifically. A lot of the answers are 3+ years old too so I'd highly appreciate an updated recommendation.

I bought all of the rebirth DLCs/have repentance so I assume that changes the answer as well.
