Is it possible to drop tank temp down almost 20F?
TLDR; What to do when needing to cool a 29 gallon tank more than 15F when the room temperature is 85F?
So I've searched this subreddit and general googling but I haven't seen anything for the specific situation I found myself in.
I have yet to get an axolotl and observing how the tank that was cycling over summer did temperature wise I wanted to get more advice on how to handle it before getting the axolotl anyway.
I live in Arizona and the temperatures get well over 100F for about half the year. I do not run the AC very low during these summer months so my apartment stays at about 85F during most of the day (basically until I get back home from work in which the AC will be set to 75 for the evening and while sleeping) to save money (my bill is still quite high) and so the tank water hovers at about that temperature as well (I think I read about 82F during that time). This leaves me having to cool the tank 15-20F during those hours. I've read that chillers are the way to go especially for that much of a temperature difference but I've also read that the cooling might not be as effective from the chiller if the air around it is already over 80F. I have a 29 gallon tank.
So is my only option to set my AC lower or is there a way to cool a tank that much when the air around the chiller is already warm?
